information. Why did you change
from CORE to ICANN?
As an ICANN approved registrar Capital Networks'
TotalNIC registration service is able to directly
access the central registration databases rather
than gatewaying through CORE. This means that
we can offer a far more reliable service with
exceptional new features. It also enables us to
make much faster changes to your domain records,
particularly in the case of registrant name changes
and incoming registrar transfers. Can my CORE contact
handle (COCO-number) be used with the ICANN registry?
No. The two systems are completely independent.
In the case of domains registered through CORE
your contact handles and domain templates exist
in CORE's database in Germany. Modifications to
those records must be made in accordance with
CORE's rules and technical specifications. In
the case of the ICANN registry your data is held
here at Capital Networks where our database was
designed specifically for this purpose and hence
allows us to operate without the restrictions
which CORE's database design places on us. Can I modify a
domain created at your CORE registry via my ICANN
registry account?
No. The two systems are independent as described
above. It is possible in the near future to transfer
a domain from the CORE registry to the ICANN registry.
When I try to
modify the contacts on my domain/account, it tells
me that the contact is invalid.
You need to enter the contact handle, not the
actual name or e-mail address. If the new contact
has not yet been registered with TotalNIC, you
will need to register them as a contact through
'Fast Register' in the Main Menu. Once they have
been registered, they will be given a contact
handle. Does my information
have to show up in a whois search? What if I don't
want this information to appear? Is there any
way around this?
Your information has to show up in the whois search.
It is required by registration regulations that
other people can contact you. You can edit your
information to preserve a level of privacy. It
is necessary that your phone number and email
address be valid and current. I've registered
a domain name through fast register and I can't
access it now.
What has most likely happened is that a contact
was created, but an account was not. Please go
to New User and create an account using the exact
e-mail address that was used to create the admin
contact. After creating an account, you will be
able to log in to your account and access the
domain name that you registered. Do I need to enter
my contact details again for every domain I register?
No. If you setup an account (free of charge) using
the "NEW USER" link on our home page you will
be able to setup account preferences so that each
time you perform a registration your details are
retained. What advantages
does an account offer me?
Account setup is FREE.
Stores your individual preferences.
Saves you time when registering
new domains.
When performing modifications
to your preferences you may elect to "bulk update"
all your existing domains. This is great where
you change your address or business name for instance.
You can choose to pre-pay your
account by credit card or a variety of other means.
This is great for some of our customers in the
UK where your bank filters multiple transactions
based on dollar amounts as well as companies wishing
to pay for large numbers of domains by check or
telegraphic transfer. Can I park my
domain on Solindohost
nameservers?
Certainly. There is no charge for this service.
If you wish to take advantage of this please leave
the default Solindohost
technical information:
Technical Contact handle: TJO00003
Primary Nameserver:
ns3.solindohost.com
Secondary Nameserver: ns4.solindohost.com
Does Modify Domain/Contact/etc
cost anything?
Electronic modifications to all records are free
of charge. All modifications can be performed
in this manner. How should I select
an account type? TotalNIC's ICANN registry
offers you:
Personal direct - use this if
you mainly register domains for yourself.
Business direct - use this if
you mainly register domains for your company.
Express ISP - use this if you
mainly register domains for your customers.
Essentially the business and personal direct
accounts operate in the same manner. The Express
ISP account type allows you to retain different
preference settings which are more appropriate
for your registration needs. For instance, when
registering a domain for a customer you would
not want the name of your ISP to appear as the
registrant, also you would want your customer
to appear as the administrative contact for
the domain.
Is my contact
a role or individual?
A role contact is a contact handle associated
with a number of people, normally staff at a company.
For instance, CAP00003 represents the role contact
TotalNIC Hostmaster. Quite obviously there is
nobody with the name "TotalNIC Hostmaster" but
we have a number of staff who respond to emails
directed to the Hostmaster email address (hostmaster@TotalNIC.net).
Therefore we require a role contact. If you are
a normal user (eg John Smith) then you require
an individual contact handle. What is an administrative/technical/billing/zone
contact?
A contact handle tells us about the person responsible
for a particular aspect of a domain's maintenance.
Administrative contact - a legal
representative of the domain registrant whether
through agency or an employee/director of the
company.
Billing contact - the person
we should contact with billing issues.
Technical contact - the representative
of the ISP or hosting service currently responsible
for maintaining the DNS servers to which this
domain is delegated.
Zone contact - the person who
actually controls hostname to IP address mapping
for a domain's DNS zone.
Quite often the administrative contact may
be the same person as the billing contact and,
similarly, the technical contact may also be
fulfilling the role of the zone contact. This
depends on your individual circumstances. You
should ensure that this information is kept
up to date so that we (and others) can contact
you if the need should arise.
I don't have a
state, I have a province. What do I do?
Please enter your province in the state field.
I don't have a
zip code, I have a post code. What do I do?
Please enter your post code in the zip code field.
Where do I get
DNS server names?
DNS server names are administered by the company
that will be serving your domain. The company
technical contact can tell you which DNS servers
to include in your domain. This will allow them
to serve your domain. What happens when
my registration time runs out?
When your initial registration period is coming
to an end you will be invited to renew your domain
registration. It is extremely unlikely that TotalNIC's
prices will ever rise. |
